From the Pastor’s desk

By Father Terry Kerner

At the end of this month, we will be saying goodbye to a wonderful staff member of St. Kateri Parish. Grace Lakatos will be retiring after nine years as Director of Formation. A member of St. Barbara parish and graduate of Fordson High School she went on to receive her nursing degree from

Madonna University and began a twenty-year career as a critical care nurse primarily in Cardiac Care. Grace then went on to serve for five years as a Special Education Paraprofessional in the Dearborn Public Schools.

Grace’s love for the Faith and desire to share it comes from her Polish Catholic mother’s ardent devotion to the Blessed Mother. Her catechetical teaching career began when in high school teaching first graders at

St. Barbara. She returned to the role in 2003 when she joined the catechist faculty at St. Martha. Certified as an Advanced Catechist with the Archdiocese she became St. Kateri’s Director of Faith Formation in 2013. Grace began attending classes at Sacred Heart Major Seminary graduating in 2017 with a degree in Catholic Theology.

Perhaps Grace’s proudest and happiest achievement is her marriage of 36 years to Greg and being the mother of twins Mary Margaret & Bridget Marie and John and Katie. Her retirement plans in her own words include: “reading for pleasure, travel, gardening, fishing, and seeing what comes next.”

All the staff and parishioners of St. Kateri pray that “what comes next” is only the best and happiest for a wonderful lady with a servant heart.

CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU Grace!
