This weekend, at all masses (both here at St. Kateri and at St. Maria Goretti), Rev. Raju Pilla will be speaking about the works and the needs of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum in India. Trivandrum has about 2,700,000 Catholics. 90% of the people belong to fishermen community, majority of whom depends on fishing for their livelihood. 10% are farm workers who are recent converts from low caste Hindus. Unemployment and poverty are most rampant in the communities. The archdiocese depends on outside contributions to support its clergy, seminarians, catechists, and the humanitarian projects of the homes for the orphans, aged and destitute, which provide food, shelter, health care, and education. In 2021, Hurricane “Tauktae” left hundreds of families homeless. Monsoon sea-erosion each year, destroys several homes of the fishermen who live near the sea and make a living from fishing. The archdiocese is yet to recover from the crippling effects of financial devastation caused by the pandemic lockdowns. We humbly request your generous contribution to the second collection. Your sacrifice for the Missions is deeply appreciated. May God bless you.
