From the Pastor’s Desk

By Fr. Terry Kerner

Last Sunday’s Blood Drive was a success! More folks volunteered to donate than the Red Cross could handle. The Red Cross’s goal of 25 was reached by the end of the day. The important number is 65, the number of lives that will be touched by our first parish blood drive. More volunteers came forward but were not able to be accommodated. We thank all of you for your willingness to donate. We will be considering having seasonal drives throughout the coming year.

Just a reminder that at Noon this Sunday on WXYZ, channel 7 the K of C will present a documentary on the contributions of Native Americans to the Catholic faith in America. Fr. Henry Sands who make his home with us many times during the year, will be featured. Tune in and be proud that you know a television celebrity.

Next Sunday is Father’s Day and what would be more fitting than honoring Dad with a pancake! Come to Mass and afterwards come over to the St. Francis Room (parish hall) for a pancake breakfast. The breakfast is complimentary and is St. Kateri’s way of saying “Welcome Back”! It will be the first meal together in fifteen months. All parishioners and friends are most welcome to attend.

For a year now Fr. Gary, at the Bishop’s request has been offering Mass every weekend at St. Joseph church in Trenton — the parish that lost their pastor last summer in a tragic boating accident. I have asked a neighboring priest, Fr. Greg Deters of St. Alphonsus/St. Clement for a little help. Father has agreed and will be trying to take a Mass when available. He will be celebrating his first Mass this Saturday. Please give Fr. Greg a warm welcome.

I do want to thank everyone who is making our CSA campaign so successful. As of this past Monday we have reached 92% of our target. Of course, any amount collected over target remains in the parish for our own needs and projects. New parishioners or visitors who did not receive my request letter and are able to donate can find the form to do so in the pew. Your contribution can be returned via the offertory, the mail or directly to the parish office. Thank you for making a visit to St. Kateri.

Have a good week and enjoy June.
