FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK by Fr. Terry Kerner
As I write this last article for the bulletin, I am drawn back in time to the first articles of our parish paper. Arriving July first, 2006, in Dearborn as pastor of two great parishes St. Martha and St. Joseph. I sensed that I would be doing double duty with two congregations. I was right. But the first thing we did was to merge the parish paper, so everyone would hear the same message. Hopefully they did. That was the beginning of many, many events and celebrations sharing and ultimately leading to the merger of our congregations.
Last weekend’s retirement celebrations made me proud to see so many folks who over the years have “merged” their friendships and dedication to their faith. I want to thank all who have shared their faith, celebrated on two sites and brought together a parish with a name that probably most folks never heard of before. We welcomed a young woman as our patroness, St. Kateri Tekakwitha and found success and joy in her patronage. Thank you for your trust in the Lord.
You have a new shepherd now. Much younger than the one you are saying “farewell” to. Fr. Craig Giera leaves his post as Vocation Director of the Archdiocese to accept his role as Pastor of Sacred Heart and St. Kateri to the sound of Fourth of July revelry. Fr. Craig will be introducing himself in the weeks ahead. Please give him a warm St. Kateri greeting!
Farewell, my friends. I will be moving to the Senior Priest Village on the campus of Madonna University. The Village accommodates apartments for 20 priests with Felician Sisters making sure we all behave. Until I am organized and settled in, any correspondence can be directed to the St. Kateri office.
Blessings to all!
