The “Deacon Is Speakin”

Update: I finished my second series of Chemotherapy for Esophageal Cancer on August 5th.  The first series commenced on February 2nd with surgery in between.  Now, I am working toward health overcoming the fatigue and other side-effects normal for this course of treatment.

Intercessory Prayer: My two main prayers in the midst of this treatment was for the intentions of all those praying for me and that divine protection and wisdom be granted President Donald Trump, along with a return to Judeo-Christian principles in our civil actions and discourse.

Blessings: Two main blessings of this “adventure with the Lord” is the deeper understanding I have acquired of the kind of suffering that so many of our parishioners deal with, which for many is far worse than what I endured.  Secondly, my daily prayer – listening to and conversing with the Lord – by grace, moved deeper from time to time, where I could only pledge greater love and fidelity to Him, who remained ever faithful to me.

Lesson Learned: During times of confusion and distress, I learned to simply say “thank you”, knowing that the Lord works through all He permits for our good if we but hold fast to Him.

Gratitude: I am so grateful for your prayers, cards, notes and well-wishes throughout this ordeal.  Too, I am so appreciative for Fr. Terry’s pastoral care and patience during my absence from ministry.

Going Forward:  My cancer treatment is finished.  I am so looking forward to getting “back on the horse”, and pestering “Coach Terry” with the words: “put me in, coach.”

Lastly: Thanks again for your prayers.  They have had a huge impact on my physical and spiritual well-being and served as a testament to your ongoing love and care for me.

I Remain Your Deacon, Tom
