We’re a busy parish! Not only busy but generous with our time, talent, and resources. Time and time again I am reminded by the St. Maria Goretti food pantry how much they appreciate the amount of food we collect for them. Their need has increased, and we seem to be helping them greatly.
A few weekends ago we had the appeal for volunteers for the mission of the St. Joseph Helpers. I am happy to report that ten folks have come forward to offer their time and talent. Others can offer their help by contacting the parish office for information.
A third sign of our generosity was the $9,300 collected for eighty-three-year-old Fr. Tom Carroll. You might recall that this priest is principal of a small school of mostly non-Catholic students in eastern Kentucky. His ministry has helped the lives of many young folks over the years. He has asked me to tell you “Thank You”.
Another outreach effort is made every Wednesday in collaboration with our Family of Parishes. It is the Soup Kitchen housed at the former St. Andrew parish in Detroit. If interested in helping, give the parish office a call (313.336.3227).
I want to remind parents and grandparents with school age children to register for the Family Faith Formation program. Children in grades 1 through 8 are eligible for this opportunity at their religious education. Classes meet on Mondays from 5:30-7:00. Orientation for students and their parents is Monday, September 25th. For more info call the parish office.
And just so you know, we are looking forward to some interesting and enjoyable activities in the coming weeks. A display of Ukrainian art from the last two years of the war will be on display. The display includes art done by young children as well as a variety of adult artists. Our annual Harvest Dinner is once again scheduled for November and in December we look forward to a Polka Mass and dinner. Details will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
