From the Pastor’s Desk

By Fr. Terry Kerner

Last Sunday we celebrated the Confirmation of six young Catholics — three from St. Maria Goretti and three from St. Kateri. They have been participants in our Family Faith Program begun two years ago. We can be very proud of these young people for their sincerity and thoughtfulness in choosing the Catholic Faith. A couple of them, Max and Sebastian, are known to many of you as servers on weekends. Others are discovering their talents and are being encouraged to serve in parish life in various ministries. Certainly, their families and sponsors have offered encouragement along their journey. But also have you by your attending Mass week after week. You might feel that gray hairs don’t relate to young teens. But your prayers and with fidelity and commitment to the Church and parish make a powerful statement to young people. It would be a mistake in seeing these teens as the “church of tomorrow”. No, they are truly the young Church of Today!

Our newly confirmed are all students in the Family of Parishes’ religious education effort. The Program serves St. Alphonsus —St. Clement, St. Maria Goretti, and St. Kateri parishes. All parents with children in grades K through 8 are encouraged to register and attend the Monday evening classes. The Family Faith Formation classes are designed to offer formation for all the family.

For high school students and adults who have not been baptized or have but not received their sacraments are encouraged to attend formation classes on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 8:15 pm. These classes begin on the first Monday of October. To register or learn more about these programs just call the parish office (313.336.3227).
