This is not the quiet summer that we might have wanted it to be or remember from previous years. With all the monumental political surprises that we are experiencing, it is good to try to keep things in perspective. And while it is normal to be worried and frustrated about the politics swirling around us, it is also helpful to pray and share your feelings with others. Neither is inconsequential for your mental and spiritual health.

The latest from the contractor regarding the new air conditioning unit for the church is that it is being built but it will still be sometime before it can be installed. We are reminded that we are not the only client seeking service. Fortunately, the heat and humidity have not been too overwhelming. The last statement from the company is that we won’t see any installation until mid-August. Please be patient – this too will pass!

We can be very proud and thankful for all your support for the annual Catholic Services Appeal (CSA). Years ago, the decision was made to not have multiple parish raffles and fundraisers. Instead we decided to go with the CSA strategy. Knowing that any amount over our target is retained by the parish and not taxed by the Archdiocese, I believe it was the correct decision. Our participation rate by parish members is currently at 45%. This is extraordinarily high throughout the archdiocese. Even on a national level this is considered an unusually high degree of stewardship. That is a credit to you. Some folks are not able to give but their prayers offered for the CSA are having a positive influence on participation. I thank all of you for your responsible generosity. Our assigned CSA Goal is $48,351. To date $75,585 has been pledged. In short $27,334 has been raised thus far for the parish. Again, THANK YOU for your support!

The first weekend of August Dearborn celebrates Homecoming. It might be a nice thought to have children, grandchildren and former parishioners come home to St. Kateri for Mass. (You might even want to suggest that they take you to dinner or breakfast after Mass!) Why not extend an invitation.

Have a good week and the quickly passing Summer.
